Scott Kelby, photographer & Photoshop Pro

Thought I’d share someone else’s eye candy today, since I’m 9 days behind in  providing my own. What the heck happens to “motivation” during the summer?

Scott Kelby is THE MAN when it comes to learning and using Photoshop.  If you don’t have one of his books as a reference when you’re processing your photos, you are NOT getting the most out of  Photoshop.   Every year he “organizes” a world-wide photo walk for all of us amateur and professional photographers.  Someone in any town who is “motivated” gets a group together and they walk around taking pictures of everything, all day.  Then, those people send their favorites to Scott and he rates them.  Some become the big winners, some become honorable mentions.  BUT ALL OF THEM ARE AMAZING!

This year, the photo walk was on July 18.  Here is the link to the winners:  http://www.scottkelby.com/blog/2009/archives/6047

& Here is the link to the honorable mentions: http://www.scottkelby.com/blog/2009/archives/6195

Enjoy!!

fame, fortune and fans….

Quick update from this post- my SF Giants vs Atlanta Braves photo was chosen!  It is now being used for the Atlanta info page at Schamp Travel guides.  I do think it’s funny that a Giant is actually at bat in this photo, but hey… when one takes such excellent photos, one doesn’t ask questions, heh…

You can see it here: http://www.schmap.com/atlanta/introduction_history/#p=17210&i=17210_83.jpg

Rest assured, I won’t let this go to my head.  ;)

My sister in law is just done, i think. And me? I’m remodeling. But that isn’t really it. I think I’m just burnt out from downloading and processing so many pics. However, today- i had an email regarding this photo! Apparently SCHMAP wants to possibly use my photo for their Schmap Guide for Atlanta!

So that made my day!

The last morning- before we got to work moving the furniture back.  We actually move a sectional downstairs to make room for our tables.  However, everytime we do it, we vacuum so the rental company can’t (or shouldn’t) complain.  We get what the housekeepers don’t and believe me- it’s needed!    In the bay, you can see a mound out in the middle- that is where a bunch of  barking sea lions were hanging out.  We couldn’t see them, just hear them.

Filming at night til 2am…

Dancing! In the Healdsburg Plaza!!  AND I WORK TIL 2AM!!  My sister was at a local social gathering (Wine Divas- a group of local business women who meet once a month to socialize and, uhhh drink wine) tonight and of course, this was the talk.  One of the diva’s husband is on the set tonight as an extra- he was told to be prepared to stay til 3am- or possibly 7am.  You bet I’ll be driving the long way home via the plaza at 2:20 am.  I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see colorfully attired dancers lit up with stage lights .  If there is anything at all to take a picture of, you know it’ll be here later!!!

Here’s another article from the Press Democrat  from later this evening when filming started.  Maybe i should change my POTD blog name/purpose to STALKING BOLLYWOOD? :D

POTD- FAIL

6/14 – edited to add that I went back to jun 6 and filled in thru 6/14.  I’m not thrilled with any of the pics but that’s the way it goes sometimes!!  Hope to get out for a photo walk tomorrow.  Thanks for coming by! :)

Last 5 days- no pics! OMG!  I’m probably going to fill in with some already taken photos just to satisfy my OCD tendencies.  But I thought I should post my POTD FAIL in case anyone else needed to feel better about their own POTD FAIL.

I work nights, 4pm-2am.  Keith works during the day, coming home at 6pm.  You’d think I’d have all morning/afternoon to take a photo, but mostly I’m doing boring things like paying bills, cleaning the house and going to the laundymat (since my washer has died and before the new one is installed, floors and electrical need to be finished- so yay- at least 3 more weeks of THAT!).   I am NOT inspired to take photos of that.  Well, actually- the laundrymat would be a good, albeit ugly, POTD since that is my misery right now.  I’m just so bored of my solitary existence during my work week and not really wanting to torture anyone with that.  I can only take so many dog/cat/garden photos, people!

Planning on starting a weekly photo walk before work since the weather is so nice, so I’m sure I’ll get my groove back.  :D

I haven’t processed the photo from yesterday yet – however, I thought I’d share this article.  My husband subscribes to a german online paper, Der Spiegel (Germany is our favorite European country [so far!]) and thought I’d enjoy this article.  I did!  And so I’m passing it on to you.

It is a photographic diary of the long life of Manfred Beier, who was born in Berlin, Germany, in 1927, grew up at Strausberger Platz square and was drafted as a teenager into part of the last-ditch Volkssturm German army defense at the end of World War II. He worked for decades after the war in the East German school system and always carried at least one camera with him — even on his forays into the West, for as long as he was able to go there and once he was able to go there again. It’s a photographic diary of German history. And it is the most comprehensive and complete documentation of everyday life in the German Democratic Republic (GDR, the former East Germany) — unique in its photographic and cultural-historical value, experts say.

Here’s the link to the article, and the link to a sampling of his collection (39 photos) is in the article.   I thought that this goes along perfectly with our Project 365.  I wonder if any of us, 60 years from now, will have a famous collection go into the archives!! :D

Okay. Not my pic, and it’s probably from my friend’s camera phone, so the quality won’t allow me to make it bigger. I was trying to take a pic today of the ridiculous high winds we’ve been having- no luck.  Debris on the front lawn isn’t that exciting.  My friend, though, got the perfect pic.  She lost her car in the process.  She’s lucky she left work late, actually.  This huge tree fell on her car about the time she would have arrived at it, if she wasn’t 15 minutes late in leaving.  She came out to find the ridiculous high winds demolished her car.  She’s actually happy about it though, as she’s been wanting a new car and her hubby has been resistant.
